Members of Kannada Jagruti Samiti, on Thursday, urged the authorities of the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) to ensure that all shops and commercial establishments in the city have name boards in Kannada language.

The members, during their visit to the MCC to review the progress of implementation of Kannada in the administration of the civic body, asked MCC Commissioner G Jagadeesh to ensure that the name boards of shops be in Kannada.

Samiti member Sa Ra Sudarshan said, name boards of a few shops are only in English language and shoping malls have displayed the boards in Kannada only for namesake.

“Kannada should be the prime language in every shop and on name boards. The MCC should ensure that it will be done in a month. Though the vehicles of the civic body has boards in Kannada, there are few shortcomings and they should be set right soon,” he said.

Sudarshan took severe exception to the advertisement boards displayed by the MCC under Swacch Bharat Mission. He said, the Union government has not asked for display boards only in English. Kannada should be included in every board, he said.

The members also visited various departments in the MCC to inspect the documents. The members directed the officials to issue notice to Vani Vilas Water Works Junior Engineer Kempegowda for sending communications in English language.

Committee members M V Vishwanath, Mylahalli Revanna, Prabamani, Kannada Pramod, Dr Y D Rajanna, and Kannada and Culture Assistant Director H Chennappa were present.
