Government doctors protesting against the disparity in salaries and irregular payment of salaries have said they would not call of the proposed strike and would resign en masse on Monday.

Karnataka State Medical Officers’ Association president Dr T A Veerabhadriah told Deccan Herald on Saturday that though they had postponed their protest thrice, they would not budge this time till their demands were looked into.

Apart from the increase in salaries, the Association has been demanding that the sanctioned posts lying vacant over the years be filled.

“We will ensure that the emergency services are not be affected, as at least two doctors in each hospital would be on duty. Most of the doctors will be participating in the strike. There are 450 doctors in Bangalore. Doctors from KC General Hospital, Ghousia Hospital and Jayanagar General Hospital are also likely to come forward and submit their resignations,” Dr Veerabhadriah said.

Earlier, on August 15 and October 1, doctors under the Karnataka State Medical Officers’ Association had threatened to go on a strike. However, following oral assurances from the authorities and the minister concerned, they had called it off.
