Freedom fighter H S Doreswamy has stressed on the need for the State government to set up a model farming village in each taluk.

Expressing disappointment over the increased use of chemicals and fertilisers on crops, Doreswamy said the government subsidy which farmers were getting on fertilisers should be stopped.

“The chemicals sprayed on the crops have spoiled the farmers’ land and affecting human health.

A model farming village in each taluk where crops are grown without fertilisers is the need of the hour,” he said, during a discussion on ‘Protection of environment, science and environment, media and environment and agriculture and environment’ here on Sunday.

Conservation zoologist Ullas Karanth said, “The forest wealth in India is only about 10 per cent and if we do not preserve it, a time will come when forests will turn deserts. Hence, protection of environment is crucial.”
