Five persons were killed on the spot and 26 were injured in a head-on collision between two buses near Umarga of Osmanabad district in Maharashtra on Friday morning.

Police said that the accident occurred as a NEKRTC bus proceeding towards Ganigapur and the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation bus bound for Pune collided with each other.

The deceased have been identified as Ambaraya Shivaraya Telakuni (driver of NERTC bus), Lakshmana Dattatreya Dotre (driver of MSRTC bus), Shivaju Maruthi Salunke, Vaman Maruthi Salunke and Rahul Ramakanth Katare. A majority of the injured are from Kalaburagi district. They have been admitted to government hospitals at Umarga and Solapur, police added.
