Govt inks pact over power plant project

L&T will be the implementing agency for this project with a 50 per cent stake and it will be established in Godhna village in Janjgir-Champa district. The thermal power project is expected to be completed in three to four years and the land acquisition process is presently underway.

Speaking at the event, Chief Minster B S Yeddyurappa said that since Karnataka lacked natural supplies of coal, Chattisgarh was an automatic choice as coal was found in abundance. The State will get 50 per cent of the power produced at the plant, with the other 50 per cent being allotted to other States in accordance with the stipulations of the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission.

Chairman and Managing Director of L&T, A M Nayak said that the company was already involved in 6 other projects in Karnataka and were enthusiastic in getting more projects. He evinced interest in monorail project and said that meetings with the government officials in this regard was already underway.
