Having received a breather from the Supreme Court, the State government, which is reluctant to face the BBMP elections now, would push trifurcation issue and delay BBMP polls by at least two years, sources in the government said.

Working out the modalities of trifurcation, on the size and extent of the proposed civic bodies and bringing in amendment to the Karnataka Municipal Act among other things are the grounds for the Congress to seek two-year extension for scheduling the BBMP polls. Bengaluru Urban District Minister Ramalinga Reddy told Deccan Herald,  “The division of the BBMP was always on the cards and the proposal is pending before the State Legislative Council. Once it is approved by the Council, the Assembly will not take more than a week to give its nod,” said Reddy.

The government will also wait for the final report of the BBMP Restructuring Committee and will take a decision “whatever is in the best interest of Bengaluru,” Reddy added.
