For this Science and Mathematics teacher in a government school in KR Nagar taluk in the district, the 83rd Akhila Bharatha Kannada Sahitya Sammelana, has turned into a platform to popularise the prominent personalities of Karnataka, who have contributed for the development of India.
U G Mohan Kumar Aradhya, an assistant teacher at Karthala village in KR Nagar taluk, has displayed his artworks on prominent personalities of Karnataka such as soldiers, writers, scientists, and sports personalities who have immensely contributed to the land, language, and the country. Aradhya has produced more than 600 works on different personalities and has displayed 100 works in a stall during the literary fest.
Aradhya aims at popularising the personalities from the state and their contributions among schoolchildren and the people. He says that most of the time, people remember these personalities only on certain occasions, but, his aim is to keep these stalwarts in the minds of the people forever.
The works also consist of the details and contributions of the respective personalities. The sketches of scientist C N R Rao, Lance Naik Hanamanthappa Koppad, who was martyred in 2016 Siachen Glacier avalanche, are a few among them.
Aradhya had celebrated Soldiers Day on January 1 at Kalamandira in Mysuru and more than 1,000 schoolchildren took part in the event. However, the works are only for display and not for sale.
Documents of Wadiyars' rule
The Karnataka State Archives department has displayed the documents and letters written by Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar and Jayachamaraja Wadiyar, on special occasions such as Dasara Durbar. The department has displayed 24 documents of the Wadiyars.
A circular regarding the Durbar visit of British Resident to Jaganmohan Palace, written on September 30, 1903, a notice regarding the European Durbar issued on September 5, 1925, and a communication regarding financial aid to artistes of Chamarajendra Karnataka Natakasabha, sent on February 26, 1907, are a few of them.
Deputy Director for Archives Gavisiddaiah said, the department has preserved more than 11,000 original documents that date back to 1868. "We had planned to display nearly 600 documents, but, we could display only 120, due to space constraint," he said.
