Law and order is vital for the development of a nation. So, police have an important role in nation building, said Deputy Commissioner V Anbu Kumar.

He was speaking during the inaugural function of rifle shooting training for citizens and self-defence camp for girl students from colleges. He also distributed complaint boxes to be placed prominently in police stations.

Even though our police force is not as sophisticated and people-friendly like in other parts of the world, the department is functioning efficiently and in a transparent way in the district. By having complaint boxes in stations, the police have a larger responsibility to act efficiently, he said.

Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer U P Singh said, people are still afraid of police. The onus is on the personnel to make people realise that they are there for the welfare of the society.

Superintendent of Police Ravi D Channannanavar said, several measures are being taken to make people understand that police are their friends. “However, people should cooperate by alerting the police about any illegal activity happening in the surroundings. Rifle training and self-defence camps will be extended to the taluk-levels shortly,” he said.ASP G K Rashmi was present.
