HC trashes petition for ban on Ramdev's drug

The High Court on Monday dismissed a PIL which sought a ban on the medicine, “Divya Putrajeevak Beej”, manufactured by Patanjali Ayurved which belongs to yoga guru Baba Ramdev.

Petitioner SS Ravishankar, a resident of Palace Guttahalli, had contended that people were being misled by the organisation which vouched that by consuming the medicine, a woman can conceive a male child.

The petitioner had sought directions to call for records pertaining to how the product was allowed to be manufactured, marketed and sold.

Additional Solicitor General Prabhulinga K Navadgi submitted to the court that according to information available with the Ayush ministry, the medicine is prescribed for improving the menstrual cycle and has nothing to do with the guarantee of having a male child.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice SK Mukherjee and Justice Ravi Malimath dismissed the PIL as the petitioner withdrew his petition.

The bench however directed the petitioner to give a representation to the authorities concerned.

Fee order
The High Court has directed two more schools to follow the recent order on collection of excess fees by private schools. Parents of students studying in Kiran High School in Hegganahalli and New Millennium School had approached the court questioning the excess fee and denying their children admission. Justice Aravind Kumar had passed an order on June 28 directing the Department of Public Instruction to fix the fee structure of private schools before the commencement of the academic year from 2017.
