The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) Employees' Union has agreed to cancel its plan to strike work as the government is taking steps to meet their demands, Transport Minister H M Revanna said on Wednesday.
"The government has already hiked wages by 12.5% for employees across all four transport corporations. This is will cause a burden of Rs 1,767.57 crore," Revanna told reporters. The minister said the government would consider the employees' demand to cancel "forced" transfers.
The KSRTC Union, affiliated to CITU, had planned to strike work from January 18. Talks are on with another union that plans to launch a strike from January 30, the minister said.
"We are also considering a demand to pay bonus to BMTC employees. I will speak to the Finance department," he said.
He said a special recruitment drive will be launched to hire bus drivers and conductors in Mangaluru and Puttur, where there is a shortage of drivers and conductors.
"The student pass subsidy is another area where we can ask for government's help," he said.
