Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday slammed Goa Water Resources Minister Vinod Palyekar for accusing his government of playing dirty politics over the Mahadayi water dispute.

“It shows his (Palyekar) arrogance. It is not proper to use such a language in the federal set-up...I had written to Goa Chief Minister (Manohar Parrikar) seeking his consent to organising a meeting of the chief ministers of the riparian states. But Goa Water Resources Minister has replied,” Siddaramaiah told reporters who sought his reaction to Palyekar’s statement on the Mahadayi’s issue.

Siddaramaiah said the Mahadayi river water disputes tribunal had asked the riparian states to try to have an out-of-court settlement of the issue. Hence, he wrote to his counterparts in Goa and Maharashtra seeking their consent in this regard, he stated.

He said that he will soon write to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking his intervention to resolve the issue. The BJP leaders from the state should meet the prime minister and mount pressure on him, Siddaramaiah added.
