An antisocial element sneaked into a building of the PG Women’s Hostel of the University of Mysore at Manasagangothri on Tuesday night.

However, alert hostel residents pounced on him, thrashed him and handed him over to the police. Following the incident, they protested against poor security on the hostel premises.
The hostel is located near Senate Bhavan.

According to the students, the accused had tried to sneak into the hostel on late Monday night, too. One of them spotted him and raised an alarm, prompting him to escape.
On late Tuesday night also he was spotted near a toilet in the hostel. The students, who were alert after Monday’s incident, caught him.

A letter with lewd messages was found in his possession.

The Jayalakshmipuram police took the miscreant into custody. No complaint has yet been filed against him.

The students said: “Even when we tried to inform the warden about the incident, he did not receive our calls during the night. Action should be taken against the warden.”
University Registrar C Basavaraju, who visited the spot later, promised to ensure security.
