Mandur is Ground Zero of Bangalore’s garbage. It is where more than half of Bangalore’s trash finds its resting place.

With thick green cover, fertile soil and abundant water, Mandur once had flourishing agriculture and was famous for its grape and mango orchards. It grew the sweetest variety of Bangalore Blue variety of grapes. Due to its proximity to Bangalore, it had high-levels of education and employment.

The very proximity became a curse. BBMP started dumping the bulk of Bangalore's garbage here in 2005. In less than a decade, the two landfills it created, contaminated air and water, destroyed the local economy and put a health scare on the people.

The Part 1 of Deccan Herald’s documentary shows the massive operation BBMP has undertaken to dump Bangalore’s garbage at Mandur.
