Superintendent of Police G Radhika, on Monday, appealed to the people not to pick up attractive items, like bags, that are left abandoned on streets or at public places.

The SP told the residents to alert the police if they find any abandoned object or vehicle to avert any untoward incident. She said that the department has instructed the local body, government agencies and private organisations to instal CCTV cameras at public places and their premises. Private security guards will be deployed at places, where necessary. In case people come across any suspected object, they can call police control room on 08232-224888 or 94808 04800.

All set for I-Day

The district administration has made necessary arrangements at Sir M Visvesvaraya Stadium for the 71st Independence Day celebrations.

The ground has been readied for the march past and cultural programmes. The stadium is decorated with buntings and illumination.

Teachers of different schools were seen supervising the rehearsals for cultural programmes, to be presented by the students, at the stadium. Students of various schools, NCC cadets, district police personnel, home guards and others were seen rehearsing on Monday.

Police personnel have been deployed at the stadium as a precautionary measure.

District in-charge Minister M Krishnappa will hoist the tri-colour at the stadium at 9 am on Tuesday.
