Committee Members took exception to the quality of implementation of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS). They said that the project has been implemented at Katthalekadu village in Maragodu GP in such a way that the project benefits only one person.
Similarly, the members expressed disappointment over the road laid at Hakathur GP limits at a cost of Rs 3 lakh, under MGNREGS.
Member T P Ramesh, B S Thammiah taking note of absence of some of the officials, said that GPs are lagging behind in implementation of Centre funded projects and there is a need to speed up the implementation process.
They said that District Vigilance and Monitoring Committee has been formed to keep an eye on the quality of works being implemented in the rural areas. Poor quality of work will be reported to the MP directly.
In the first phase, the Committee will visit Gram panchayats and monitor the works. On Tuesday, the Committee visited Hakathur, Maragodu, Sidhapura, Maldare, Chennayyanakote, Palibetta, Ammathi, Kondangeri villages. As many as 22 GPs were selected for first round of visits by the members. The comprehensive report of their visit will be submitted to the Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer, T P Ramesh said.
The team inspected MGNREGS works, community forestry projects, public instructions schemes, Sampoorna Swachatha Andholan, animal husbandry, health and family welfare, Watershed, Integrated Tribal Development Project, Prime Minister’s Special Projects, SGSY and various other projects. District Vigilance and Monitoring Committee Members Kariyanna, Saritha Punacha, ZP Project Officer Motappa, Deputy Director of Public Instruction Narasinhaiah, Madikeri Taluk Panchayat Executive Officer Puttaswamy, Virajpet Taluk Panchayat Executive officer Venkatesh and others were present.
