As a part of Oil and Gas Conservation monthly programme, Saksham, a cyclothon, was organised by Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL) in the city on Sunday.

The cycle rally was flagged off by MP Nalin Kumar Kateel in the presence of Mangaluru South MLA J R Lobo.

The cycle rally was a part of a nationwide campaign being taken up by Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA), a body under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India. The campaign to creating awareness about the conservation of fuels, reducing wastage of petroleum products and promoting recycling is being taken up by PCRA in association with public sector oil companies. The campaign contains two components – educational campaign through various media and on-ground events like the cycle rally. The cycle rally has been planned to be carried out in 77 cities across the country over a period of four months and in Mangaluru, MRPL has been nominated.

The rally was held in association with the Mangalore Bicycle Club (MbC) with the cooperation of Bharat Scouts and Guides. Students and cycling enthusiasts participated in large numbers in the cycle rally which traversed across the heart of the city.

About 35 plus MbC members and 250 from MRPL including staff and students from MRPL school and their family members too participated.
