The National Green Tribunal (NGT) could not take up petitions on the controversial Yettinahole drinking water project due to time constraints on Thursday. The tribunal, headed by Justice  Swatanter Kumar, has posted the matter to July 24 for final hearing.

Three petitions are pending before the tribunal against the project which is coming up near Sakleshpur in Hassan district. The petitioners have raised three different issues pertaining to the project — non-availability of sufficient water, cutting down of a large number of trees in violation of rules and damaging the ecology of Western Ghats.
