Over a week after reports stated that the state government has decided to go in for high-security registration plates (HSRP) to curb fake number plates, Transport Minister H M Revanna said on Thursday no decision has been taken yet.

“There is a Supreme Court order for implementation of high-security registration plates but we have not yet taken any decision as of now,” he said.

The HSRP includes a hologram and a non-removable snap lock.
The minister also touched upon the row over the mandatory installation of speed governors. Various transport associations have protested the government’s decision to allow only two companies to install speed governors.

They have contended that the two companies were charging exorbitant prices for their speed governors even as other players in the market installed the same devices at half the price.
“We had called a tender in which 10 companies participated. Two of the companies were found eligible and hence bagged it. Even the KSRTC is buying 9,500 speed governors,” the minister said.

However, he added that the government will take a decision to ensure that inconvenience is not caused to the public.
