The Bantwal town police have booked a Kannada newspaper photojournalist for reportedly posting provocative and inflammatory content about a religion on  WhatsApp group.

Based on a complaint filed by Muneesh Ali, a Municipal Councillor of Bantwal, the police booked Sudhkar Yermal on Tuesday.

In the complaint, Ali stated that the photojournalist had shared slanderous material relating to a religion on 'Media and Rai Sir', a WhatsApp group created for coordination between media and district in-charge minister Ramanatha Rai.

The police identified the suspect based on the cellphone number and registered the case.

The content shows the religion in poor light and spread misgivings about the religion. The post defamed the religion and may disturbing peace in the society, Ali added in the complaint.

The police went to his residence at Padil on Wednesday night, but could not trace him.
