Prime Minister Narendra Modi is dividing India into ‘Shining India’ and ‘poor Bharath’ and hence has proposed the Land Acquisition Act which would be the biggest threat to farming community, said CPI (M) general secretary  Seetharam Yechury.

Addressing a rally of farmers at Freedom Park on Tuesday to oppose the Land Acquisition Ordinance, Yechury said Modi had been attempting to appease the rich and industrialists ever since he became the prime minister. “All his schemes benefit corporate world. He is following anti-farmer, anti-labour and anti-poor policies,” Yechury said.

“ The prices of petroleum products have come down, but the Centre has not decreased the prices of petrol and diesel. There is place only for the rich in Modi’s Shining India. Farmers and poor have no place in Modi’s India,” he charged and added efforts would be made to prevent the proposed Ordinance from becoming an Act.

Rashtriya Janandolana Samiti’s Medha Patkar said that BJP government was trying to attract investment from the US, Germany, France and Japan. “Modi has neglected India’s traditional values, work culture and resources. He is trying to appease industrialists and real estate elements. He is trying to sell India in the form of Public Private Partnership (PPP) model,” she said.

Kannada writer Devanuru Mahadeva sought the help of the RSS in opposing the Land Acquisition Ordinance. “ Modi is behaving as a courtesan in the court hall of Ambani and Adani. He is trying to sell his mother land. India will become a brothel if the same trend continues,” Mahadeva said.

They took out a procession from City Railway Station and assembled at Freedom Park.
