Private medical doctors on Friday agreed to call off their five-day-old protest following an assurance from the state government to modify the controversial the Karnataka Private Medical Establishment (KPME) Bill, 2017.

The revised Bill will be tabled in the Assembly on Monday, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah told reporters after holding a meeting with the doctors at the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha.

The changes the government has assured to bring in are: Removal of the imprisonment clause, the grievance redressal committee will not handle clinical complaints and lastly, the government will fix cost for procedures that come under government insurance schemes only.
