There is a competition between the town municipal council and private persons to meet drinking water requirements in the town. With depleting water table and frequent power cuts, irregular water supply has become the norm in the town.

As many as 30 borewells were sunk, just the last week by the town municipal council and a tender worth Rs 30 lakh has been invited to lay pipelines.

Besides, water is supplied through two tankers in the town, said council health officer Tayalur Nagaraj.

But the residents say that water tankers used by the council are defunct. “We have not received water since many days,” the residents complained.

Considering inadequate supply of water by the council, a few private persons are supplying water through tanker. Members of Kothur Manjunath and V Adinarayan fans’ associations are supplying water in three tankers each.

“Thankfully, private persons have come to our rescue,” said Ramalakshmamma, a resident of Mutyalapet.
