Students in state-run universities pursuing doctoral programme (PhD) in the areas of science and engineering will get a stipend of Rs 3,000 a month for 10 months, Science and Technology Minister M R Seetharam said on Wednesday.

"Every year, about 1,000 scholars will get Rs 3 crore in grants," he added. The minister said there was great demand for mobile planetariums.

"There are five right now. We have decided to procure seven more. The tender process is underway," he said.
