Shridhar, a sculptor from Shivamogga district, is known for creating exceptional sculptures. Shridhar has been creating beautiful and elaborate structures for the last 25 years. One of his famous works include the statue of Shiva in Murudeshwara.

Set near the sea, the statue is considered as the tallest Shiva statue in the world. Shridhar has also carved a cave using cement, near the statue. A series of beautifully carved sculptures in this cave depict the story behind the temple and other related details. Another important work that Shridhar has created is the bust of philosopher Basaveshwara or Basavanna, which was installed in London, on the banks of River Thames, last year. He worked for over two months to carve this bust.

Some of his works include sculptures based on the life and messages of Basavanna, installed in different places; Basavanna's statue in Basava Kalyana; Hanuman statue in Jabalpur; images of Shiva in Surat and Gitopadesha statue in Nelamangala. Born into a sculptors’ family, he got exposure to the art at a very early age. His father Kashinath Kavathekar is a well-known sculptor and a recipient of Jakanachari award, a State-level award conferred on talented sculptors and craftsmen. Shridhar is also inspired by the works of his grandfather Tippajappa and uncle Narayana Rao.

“Whenever we design an artwork, it is important to understand the concept and philosophy behind it. Only then the effort becomes fruitful,” says Shridhar.
