Solar power agreement

The State government on Thursday signed an agreement to purchase 150 megawatts (mw) of solar power from Messrs Sun Edison (SE).

Pashupathy Gopalan, president of Asia Pacific division, signed the agreement on behalf of the company with two electricity supply companies. SE will supply power to the Hubballi Electricity Supply Company and the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company.

The Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Corporation Limited (KREDL) had called for tenders to supply 500 megawatts of power. SE has won the tenders to supply 150 mw of energy. KREDL aims to have a 1000-mw grid connected solar capacity within the next one-and-a-half years.
