The KSPCB organised its first ever workshop on ‘Environment Management Practices in Sponge Iron Units’ here on Tuesday. According to the Board, the concentrated units and unsustainable ways of transportation have led to an alarming concentration of 100 ug/m3 respirable particulate matter. The KSPCB had called 27 industries for personal hearing, issues notices to 14 and closed two industries. Of the 63 sponge iron industries in the State, 52 are located in Bellary and Koppal belt.
