Speaking after inaugurating 'Avva' award presentation ceremony organised by Avva Seva Trust, as part of the eighth death anniversary of Guravva Shivalingappa Horatti, here on Saturday, she noted that the culture of respecting parents should grow.
We need an education that builds our character, and not just our academic knowledge. Such an education helps us to prevent ourselves from committing mistakes. In the present competitive era of urban lifestyle, we should not lose the mentality to respect our parents, she added.

In reply to the award, senior journalist Padmaraj Dandavati opined that such awards are more valuable than Rajyosatava awards. He also lamented that newspapers today are becoming more and more urban-centric.
