Three brothers were allegedly stabbed to death by five members of a rival family over a dispute related to an approach road to agricultural land of the victims at Bhadrapura village in Bhadravathi taluk in the district on Monday afternoon.

The dead have been identified as Chandru (38), Prakash (35) and Ramesh (35), sons of Nagappa. Around 12.30 pm, the five-member group allegedly attacked the three brothers at the disputed site and fled.

According to the kin of the deceased, there had been a clash between the families of Nagappa and Manjappa over the approach road. It is said that Nagappa’s family members had to pass through the land belonging to Manjappa’s family to reach their fields as there is no alternative road. Manjappa’s family had objected to it on several occasions and this had led to enmity between the two families, which had filed cases in the local police station. The case is still pending in the court.

It is said that Manjappa’s sons Hanumanthappa, Shekharappa, Harish, Gopi and Parameshi had heated exchanges with the other family on Monday morning. The five brothers allegedly attacked Chandru while he was carrying food for his younger siblings who were in their field. They also attacked Prakash and Ramesh who rushed to prevent the attack on their brother. Holehonnur police have registered a case.
