The dead are Kiran (21) and Pradeep (21) of Alfa Engineering College in Bangalore. Accompanied by eight more students, the two had come to Sangam to spend their weekend there.
Kiran drowned when he went to swim and Pradeep also drowned while trying to rescue his friend, said the police. The local residents tried to rescue them but in vain, said the friends in their complaint.
Circle Inspector Manjunath and Sub-Inspector Naveen, who visited the spot, said divers and fire personnel have been pressed into service but the bodies have not been traced yet. A case has been registered at Sathanur police station
