The state government has banned two-stroke autorickshaws from Bengaluru roads from next month to cut noise and air pollution in the city.
The government would provide Rs 30,000 subsidy to autorickshaw drivers who want to buy four-stroke LPG auto rickshaws and Rs 30 crore has been earmarked for the purpose.
Additional Commissioner for Transport H G Kumar said there are 1.2 lakh registered autorickshaws in Bengaluru and about 12,000 are powered by two-stroke engines.
“The auto drivers will have to get their vehicles scrapped and bring us the certificate for the same to avail the subsidy,” Kumar said.
