Simon Anthonyappa, an accomplice of the slain forest brigand, Veerappan, and death convict lodged in the Hindalga Central Jail, was admitted to the district hospital following deterioration of his health on Sunday.

A diabetic, Simon vomited a couple of times and complained of hazy vision and giddiness. He was examined by the jail doctor and was recommended to be shifted to the district hospital.
Simon was escorted to the hospital amid tight police security and is being treated as an in-patient. Jail officials, speaking to Deccan Herald, said that Simon was recovering and was out of danger.

Four persons, including Jnanaprakash Joseph, Bilavendra Maresh Gowda, Meese Madaiah and Simon Anthonyappa, were sentenced to death by the Supreme Court, for their role in the 1993 land mine explosion in Palar, on the border of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Their mercy pleas were rejected by the President recently. However, the Supreme Court has stayed the execution of the death sentence following a petition filed by the convicts.
