India on Monday received a “detailed briefing” from Japan on the security scenario in the Asia-Pacific region, where China is expanding its military influence.

Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, who picked Tokyo as his first foreign-tour destination, received the briefing from his Japanese counterpart Gen Nakatani on the strategic developments pertaining to the international security situation in the Asia-Pacific and Indian Ocean regions.

He also lauded Nakatani for the detailed briefing, according to a Defence Ministry statement.
Parrikar also called on Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. The defence minister's visit comes at a time when Japan is overhauling its security structure in the backdrop of increasing military activities in the Asia-Pacific region and the Indian Ocean.

Tokyo had confronted Beijing on China's unilateral declaration of an air defence identification zone over East China Sea, which overlaps the air defence zones of Japan and South Korea, as well as the dispute on the sovereignty of the Senkaku/Diaoyu island, which is claimed by both Japan and China.
