Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi has been summoned by a local court in Assam in connection with a defamation case filed by the RSS.

The RSS filed the case against Rahul for his comments against the organisation last December when he was prevented entry into a Vaishnavite monastery.

The Chief Judicial Magistrate of Kamrup (Metro) district court issued a summons on Saturday asking Rahul Gandhi to appear before it on September 29.

“One Anjan Bora had filed a defamation case against Rahul in the court of the CJM, Guwahati, under Sections 499 and 500 of the IPC related to criminal defamation. The court, after examining all witnesses, (Saturday) issued a summons to Rahul,” senior Guwahati High Court advocate Bijan Mahajan, representing Bora, said.

The case was filed against Rahul for tarnishing the image of the RSS.
