Rs 25-lakh fine for wasting judicial time
The Supreme Court on Monday imposed an exemplary cost of Rs 25 lakh on a Rajasthan-based trust for filing 64 petitions in 10 years in the name of public interest, and wasting judicial time.
A three-judge bench presided over by Chief Justice J S Khehar restrained Suraz India Trust and its chairman Rajiv Dahiya from filing any PILs in the future. “Waste of judicial time is a serious issue, as matters of extreme importance that are taken up lag behind because of misconceived intention of people who are not competent to raise such issues,” the bench, also comprising Justice D Y Chandrachud and Sanjay Kishan Kaul, said.
