The Supreme Court on Tuesday indicated that there would be a “court-monitored Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe” into the illegalities that emerged out of the intercepted telephonic conversations of corporate lobbyist Nira Radia with prominent people.
A bench of Justices G S Singhvi and V Gopala Gowda deferred passing the order to October 17.
The court also directed Additional Solicitor General L N Rao, representing the Income Tax (I-T) department, to submit the list of officers in a sealed cover who will be involved in making further transcripts of the tapped telephonic conversations.
During the hearing, the court also noted that the officers had looked into some calls, while a huge chunk was yet to be scrutinised and the process could take another three months.
“When these calls were not scrutinised, nobody had an idea (about criminality). Everything happened accidentally,” the court observed.
