As the Mumbai Police dig deeper into the Sheena Bora murder case to establish the financial trail and the motive, investigators are going back to 2002, when TV tycoon and then Star India CEO Peter Mukerjea got married to Indrani Bora.
With a timeline in hand, cops are ascertaining Peter’s situation when he left Star India in 2007 and formed INX Media Pvt Ltd.
INX Media was launched with 9XM, a general entertainment channel, in 2007 and NewsX news channel was launched in 2008. The plan was to launch around a dozen channels - but they had to exit in 2009. Peter was chairman of the company, while Indrani was the CEO and had virtual control of the company.
“Around that time, Sheena started coming to Mumbai and eventually she and her brother Mikhail Bora were introduced to Peter by Indrani as her Guwahati-based siblings.
Interestingly, before or after marriage, Peter had never met her parents and continued to believe Indrani,” a senior investigator said.
“There is something more to it. We have to go back to 2007-09 and analyse the controversies and financial trail... whether there are any funds parked in Sheena's name that she refused to part now,” the investigator said.
As far as Peter is concerned, he almost led a “retired sort of life”- and the couple divided their time between residences in Worli in Mumbai, Bristol in UK and Marbella in Spain.
Peter also used to go to Goa, where his brother Gautam is based, the investigator added.
“We have to establish it before Saturday when the remand ends, it is a tough job. Moreover, Indrani is not cooperating and yet to break and confess. Merely statements of the two co-accused–Indrani’s first husband Sanjeev Khanna and driver Shyam Rai–is not going to be enough for establishing the case,” he said.
The investigators are now checking each and every detail of the known accounts within the family and all passport entries of Indrani and Sheena.
The victim’s passport–which was recovered from Dehradun, her live-in partner Rahul Mukerjea’s hometown–is being scrutinised and each and every trip and its further details are being corroborated.
