The Border Security Force (BSF) on Wednesday gunned down two Pakistani smugglers after they attempted to breach the border zone in Punjab at the Shahpur border outpost in Ajnala sector.

The bodies of the two intruders were recovered after the encounter. An AK-47 assault rifle, a pistol and over two dozen bullet rounds were recovered.

A Pakistan SIM card, 4 kg of heroin and Pakistani currency worth Rs 20,000 has also been recovered. The deceased attempted to infiltrate the border fence on the intervening night of September 19-20.

They were challenged by BSF troops on patrol. The two Pakistanis retaliated with gun shots. After several rounds of firing, the infiltrators were neutralised.

The area has been cordoned off and search operation was set rolling to nip any possibility of more intruders who may have sneaked in in the cover of darkness.
