Vanzara files Rs 101 cr defamation case

Former Gujarat top cop D G Vanzara has filed an Rs 101 crore defamation case against Mufti Abdul Qayyum Mansuri, whom the Supreme Court acquitted from the 2002 Akshardham temple attack.

Vanzara, on bail and is confined to Mumbai on the Sohrabuddin and Ishrat Jehan fake encounter cases, is reportedly objecting revelations in Mansuri’s book that he used third degree torture during his custody.  Mansuri’s 225-page account titled ‘Gyarah Saal Salankho Ke Peechhe’ (11 years behind the bars) promises to narrate  the harassment and torture by the police of “an innocent man”.  Vanzara has named Jamiat-e-Ulema, Maharashtra, Jamiat-e-Ulema and Madrassa Tarbiyatul Atfal, Ahmedabad, Rasulbhai Moonlight and Maulvi Nizammudin as other respondents.
