In a bid to connect with passengers from Bengaluru division, the South Western Railway has started a Facebook page and Twitter handle.

The Facebook page “South Western Railway Bangalore Division” and the Twitter handle “@swrbangalore” are functioning and passengers can get latest updates and post grievances.

Now, Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has a Facebook page and a Twitter handle, which is quite popular with the public.

Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Anil Kumar Agarwal said that social media presence is a great tool to connect with hundreds of people and it will go a long way in sharing information about rescheduling of trains, running of special trains as well as important events.

To avoid passengers from waiting at the station to check the status of their trains, officials launched a 10-line outdoor train information board which will display the status as soon as they enter the circulating area of the City railway station.

The division is also planning to introduce e-registration on demand for freight operations information system (FOIS) and parcel management system.

“We have started e-tendering for local-level small-value store tenders as well as 100 per cent auction of scrap online,” he said. After the upgradation of IRCTC website, 7,000 tickets can be booked per minute instead of the earlier 1,500 tickets.

“Consequently, Internet ticket bookings have gone up to 5.5 lakh per day as compared to 3 lakh per day in the past resulting in reduction of queues at reservation centres,” the DRM said.

Under the integrated security surveillance system, 70 CCTV cameras at City station and another 40 have been installed at the Yeshwanthpur station, Agarwal added.
