An electrician in the city was arrested on Monday for fixing a remotely controlled hidden camera at the neighbour’s bathroom.

K Reghunath, the 35-year-old electrician, is said to have watched the scenes at the neighbour’s bathroom using the computer installed at his residence.

Police said the electrician, who had fitted a water heater at his neighbour’s house at Muttada in the city, fixed a hidden camera on it without the knowledge of the residents. He had also installed a wireless receiver on the sealing of his room to capture the images from the bathroom with audio, which he could watch on his computer.  On finding a hole in the temperature gauge of the heater, women folk of the house alerted the men who confirmed the presence of an odd device through an expert.

When they opened the heater after the members of the household lodged a complaint with them, the police located the hidden camera. A police team headed by Peroorkada Circle Inspector arrested Reghunath, who turned out to be a local Congress leader. Though Reghunath said his experiment had failed as he could not watch the images from the camera, the police suspect that he could have remote-controlled the device.  Investigators suspect Reghunath may have played a similar trick in other houses where he had installed water heaters and fans.
