Aditi wins stroke play

Aditi Ashok dished out her worst card so far in the Usha-IGU All-India Ladies and Junior Girls Championship but still had enough in her arsenal to regain the stroke play title here on Thursday.

Despite shooting an error-strewn 74 in the third round, the 16-year-old Bengalurean managed to lay her hands on the Billo Sethi trophy for the third time after totalling 214 at the Eagleton Golf Resort.

Pace-setter Nishtha Madan of Gurgaon produced a level-par 72 to end second two shots behind Aditi while Seher Atwal (74) and Ridhima Dilawari (75) ended tied third at 218.

Arshia Mahant picked up the Category B title with a total of 231 while Anika Varma triumphed in Category C with a cumulative score of 226.

Aditi began with a bogey on the second hole but negated that with a birdie on the fourth hole. What followed soon was a fluctuating ride but with all of her rivals also strugglig to cope with the conditions, the teenager was able to wrap up a good win.

Leading scores (after 54 holes): Ladies: 214: Aditi Ashok (73, 67, 74); 216: Nishtha Madan (70, 74, 72); 218: Seher Atwal (72, 72, 74), Ridhima Dilawari (73, 70, 75); 224: Gaurika Bishnoi (75, 76, 73).

Category A: 214: Aditi Ashok; 216: Nishtha Madan; 218: Seher Atwal, Ridhima Dilawari; 224: Gaurika Bishnoi.

Category B: 231: Arshia Mahant (73, 78, 80); 233: Diksha Dagar (73, 81, 79); 234: Riya Ahuja (77, 79, 78).

Category C: 226: Anika Varma (75, 75, 76); 229: Vasundhara Thiara (81, 75, 73); 242: Esha Sharma (76, 84, 82).
