'Breathtaking' stunt by youths

Traffic sub-inspector Veeraiah and constable Mariswamy of Kalasiplaya traffic police station who were on patrol duty at Coronation Circle, stopped Rajendra (29) of Chamundinagar of Rajajinagar and Saravana (26) of Magadi Road who were riding a two-wheeler to conduct the breathanalyser test.

When they found them driving under the influence of alcohol, sub-inspector Veeraiah fined them Rs 1,500 and issued a notice. Even as the officer was getting the printout of the notice, pillion rider Saravanna snatched the Blackberry handset from him and the duo sped away.

Shocked for a while, Veeraiah and Mariswamy recovered their wits and chased the fugitives in an autorickshaw.

They were able to trace them by the registration number of their vehicle and the blackberry was recovered from Saravana’s house. The two youths were arrested.

They have been booked in criminal cases for disturbing the police while they were on duty and also robbing the government servants.

Doctor killed in accident

In a hit-and-run case Dr Ganesh Prasad (32), a neurosurgeon with Narayana Hrudayalaya, was killed on the spot, on Monday morning.

The deceased, who was a resident of Koramangala was riding a two-wheeler when the accident took place on Hosur Main Road. He was on his way to the hospital.

Lorry knocks down one

Raghuswamy (25), a sales representative, was killed on the spot and his colleague, who was riding pillion escaped with minor injuries, when a speeding lorry rammed into the two-wheeler, near Uttarahalli on Monday morning.
