Addressing media persons here on Saturday, Balachandra said that the DC has ordered for a drive against illegal places of worships without studying the orders of the Supreme Court.

Notices served

Notices are being served on temples managements giving a week’s time to remove the places of worship.  If they fail to do so, such structures will be removed by the district administration according to the notice, he added.

He said that the deputy commissioner should have obtained information on each temple and taken a decision for its removal only if it was coming in the smooth way of traffic.

Balachandra said that the deputy commissioner was not giving complete information about the measures being taken to legalise the places of worship or relocating them on to other places.

He also demanded that the necessary help should be given so that people can shift the illegal places of worships, if necessary.

The State Government is also not taking up the cases of temples individually, he added.
Balachandra said that they were not against removal of small shrines or temples that were obstructing road, but only demanding that the land be allotted in other areas for re-consecration of the idols.

Conveners N Shivarao, Archakara Sangha President Prahlad Rao, Secretary Srinivas were present at the press meet.
