Announcing this at a press conference here on Wednesday, State Information Commissioner H N Krishna said the petitioners will get an SMS in three stages: when the case number is generated, after the case is posted for hearing and after the case is disposed. After a petitioner gets a case number, they can further use it to obtain information on the status of the case on KIC website: http://kic.gov.in

Alternatively the petitioner or respondent can also sms their case number to 92123 57123 to get details of their case. The first three smses sent by the KIC to the petitioner will be free of charge. For the rest of the sms sent and received by the petitioner, the messages will be charged according to STD rates. The website will also be launched in Kannada in January according to Krishna. Those who log on to the website can access the comprehensive search facility to find details of case by petitioner’s name, respondent’s name, case number and address.

In 2010, the KIC received 15,886 complaints out of which 6,690 have been disposed. The statistics provided by KIC reveal that 519 officials in 2010 were fined a collective amount of Rs 22.69 lakh for not providing information under RTI.

Making use of the recently introduced facility of video conferencing, KIC has conducted hearings on 18 cases. There are about 35 cases pending in High Court challenging the orders of the KIC.

This is how you send a message
To know their case status, petitioners can send a message (for ex: KICTSTAT kic108ptn2010) to 92123 57123. If a petitioner has not given the mobile number, then they can sms the case number (ex:KIC108PTN2010) in the prescribed format to receive sms from KIC.
