The mayor’s action came after the Opposition benches erupted in protest against rampant corruption, during the subject meeting of the Council.Spearheading the protests was the Janata Dal (Secular), with the Congress raising objections every now and then, on various issues.

The session ended in chaos with Mayor S K Nataraj adjourning the House, and the ruling BJP leader, Katte Satyanarayana, reading out additional five approvals. Not surprisingly, the BJP defended its stance of approving the subjects by blaming the Opposition for its tactics of disrupting the House.

Both leaders of the Opposition, M Nagaraj of the Congress, and Padmanabha Reddy of the JD(S), declared an indefinite protest against the BJP. They said they would again disrupt the Council proceedings during its monthly meeting on Thursday.

Later speaking to the media, Nagaraj said the BJP was blinded by its greed for money and had usurped the Council with its majority.

“There has been no development in the City over the past six months. Proposals are approved amidst chaos every time the Council meets. We cannot tolerate it. As a result, we have decided to disrupt the proceedings of the Council indefinitely,” Nagaraj said.
