Though the temperature may not dip to a single digit, it’s low enough to give the shivers.     Along with keeping our body protected from the chilly winter, it is important to adapt measures to keep the house warm to feel better.

Here are a few tips to create a warm home this winter.

Winter is the time when  people truly appreciate the comfort of home, especially that of the warm bed.

By selecting the right kind  of bed linens, duvet covers, one can feel comfortable in chilly nights.

“It is better to go for duvet covers made of high quality  material and fine satin weaving.  Pillows can be kept on the couch in the bedroom or they can be covered by crochets to make them warm. Hard flooring of the bedroom can also be covered by carpets
and rugs to give a cosy feeling to your feet. The ideal colours for a bedroom in winter are deep autumnal shades such as plums and purples,” says Rajesh Kumar Das, an interior designer.  Rajesh has some creative ideas to offer.

“Apart from making the needed alterations to interiors, one can also feel comfortable
by thinking about the pleasant ambience. Putting plants, fake or real to your room, is
a great way of adding warmth to the ambience and reminding oneself of the coming spring,” he says.

“In the same way, a big  image of the fireplace at the centre of the house will give
a warm feeling,” he suggests.

Richa Singh, another  interior designer, feels that we are more equipped to handle the heat than cold. According to her, right choices of materials and colours for interiors can do
the trick.

“Use double layer curtains – sheer and thick base – for the windows. The material
used in sheer curtains enables the sunlight to pass through. The most popular colours
are ivory, cream, and white.

It is advisable to use these  curtains on the west and south facing windows during the day. Once the inside is warm, we can trap this heat by covering the windows with the
thick base curtain,” she says.
