With the increase, the mayor, who was drawing around Rs 5,000 a month, will now get Rs 20,000, his deputy will get Rs 15,000 in place of Rs 3,500, and the councillors will get Rs 7,500 instead of Rs 1,500.
Last revision
The honorariums were last revised in 1997 and the government had time and again turned down the BBMP Council’s plea to hike it.
Recently, Mayor S K Nataraj and ruling party leader in the Council, Katte Satyanarayana, called on Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa and tendered their plea for a hike, which was approved on Thursday. There, however, will not be any hike in the allowances.
The government did not entertain the plea for a change in the rule on standing committee meetings. Presently, the standing committees meets just twice a month and the mayor is of the opinion that the committees cannot function in a coordinated way if they met only twice a month. He said he would appeal to the government again to re-consider changing the rule.
