Math, associations celebrate National Youth Day in Mangalore

In a programme organised at Ramakrishna Math in Mangalore, Assistant Commissioner Prabhulinga Kavalikatti, speaking after inaugurating National Youth Day organised as part of Vivekananda’s 149th birth anniversary, said a country can not be built by an individual or an institution. “Just as Swamy Vivekananda’s thoughts and principles helped in building a society, the youth too should contribute to nation building,” he said.

Appealing youth who are on the wrong path and to those who have been attracted towards terrorism in the country, he said: “If youth come forward, then we need not wait till 2020 for the integrated development of the country.”

MRPL Director (Technical) P P Upadhya said there is a need to change youth. Youth should believe in their own strength to achieve success.

Blood donation

In another programme, NSS unit of University College, Red Ribbon Club, Students Association and NCC unit of University College jointly organised a blood donation camp at the University College premises to mark the birth anniversary of Vivekanada on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, DK District Aids Nodal Officer Dr Kishor Kumar said inspite of development in the field of medical field, no alternative to blood has been discovered so far. A healthy individual can donate blood once in three months.

Ramakrishna Math’s Swamy Mukthipadanandaji said Swamy Vivekananda should become a guide for the youth. Youth should follow the footsteps of Vivekananda.

Student Nikhil Shetty presented the Tulu version of famous Chicago speech of Swamy Vivekanada.

More than 50 students donated blood on the occasion. College Principal Dr H R Lakshminarayana Bhat and Beary Sahithya Academy President M B Abdul Rahman also spoke.

Folk fest

A district-level folk art fest and National Youth Day was organised under the joint auspices of Nehru Youth Centre, Mangalore, National Service Scheme  unit of Mangalore University and Mahalingeshwara Daya Friends Circle, Adyar at Town Hall.  MP Nalin Kumar Kateel inaugurated the programme.
