A series of concerts will be held on January 15 and 16. Entry is free . On January 15, Aarti Rao’s Kaya Quartet will perform.

Aarti is a popular city-based Jazz and Blues artiste. Describing Bangalore audience as a culturally educated lot, Aarti says there’s nothing more satisfying than attracting the curious onlookers who come to the  habba.

“Jazz is generally liked by older people and has a niche crowd,” she adds.

After her performance, a Jazz Fusion band from Delhi called HFT will take the stage.

Breaking free from the traditional jazz tunes, Arjun from HFT says that one can expect strong melodies with a funk base and also a hint of ragas.

“What’s really exciting about playing in the City is the fact that people here are really encouraging. This pushes us to improvise our performance and give them what they need,” adds Arjun.

January 16 will see bands like Soulmate from Shillong perform.

As to why they chose the Blues, the members immediately say, “We didn’t choose the Blues, the Blues chose us.”

The highlight of the evening, however, will be Amit Heri, a versatile guitarist, who is known for his varied styles and compositions.

“This habba I want to keep it simple and have some fun. So for my concert, I am planning to play all my original compositions and hopefully the audience will enjoy it,” he says.
