In return, he had to sanction a loan of Rs 25 lakh for a wannabe trader Umesh Kumar under the Pradhan Mantri Rojgar Guarantee Yojna (PMRGY), also known as Prime Minister Employment Guarantee Programme.

Umesh wanted to install a rice polishing plant under the PMRGY and had, therefore, approached the Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) Cash and Credit Centre of the SBI.

To process his loan of Rs 25 lakh, the deputy manager insisted for a graft of Rs 1.2 lakh. Eventually, the deal was struck through a middleman, and Rs 30,000 was to be handed over to Sinha as the first installment.

But, in the meantime, Umesh lodged a complaint with the anti-corruption wing of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The CBI verified the complaint and subsequently laid a trap in the main branch of the SBI. The CBI sleuths on Saturday caught Sinha red-handed when accepting Rs 30,000 from Umesh.Sinha was arrested and produced before the trial court in the evening, which forwarded the senior SBI officer to jail.
